This guide explains how to connect apps to Bardeen, troubleshoot issues with existing connections, and understand the importance of granting the necessary permissions.

- Fix Connections through Connected Apps in Settings
- Why Connections May Fail
- Permissions for Connecting Apps
1. Connect from Builder
The easiest way to connect an app is directly from the Builder while creating an automation. When you select an action tied to an app that hasn’t been connected yet, Bardeen will prompt you to create the connection automatically.
For example, if you choose an action related to Google Sheets, you will see a prompt to connect your Google account and grant the necessary permissions to proceed.
2. Fix Connections through Connected Apps in Settings
Sometimes, previously configured apps may require reconnection. For example, if permissions were changed, tokens expired, or integrations were removed, you’ll need to fix the connection to continue using the automation.
To fix a connection:
- Click on the three dots next to your profile icon in the top-right corner and go to Settings.
- Select the Connected Apps tab.
- Use the search bar to find the app you want to reconnect, and follow the prompts to re-establish the connection.
3. Why Connections May Fail
Common reasons why app connections may stop working include:
- Expired tokens: OAuth tokens used to authenticate the app connection may expire and need renewal.
- Revoked Access: The user may have revoked Bardeen's access to the connected app.
- Account changes: Switching accounts or disconnecting an app from its original platform will require reconnection.
- Changed Credentials: If the password of the connected account is changed, integrations relying on the old credentials might fail.
Keeping your app connections up-to-date ensures seamless automation workflows.
4. Permissions for Connecting Apps
When connecting certain apps, Bardeen will ask for specific permissions.
For example, Google Sheets may ask access to read, write, and delete all files. The reason we request access to read, write, and delete files is to enable the integration to function smoothly with your Google Sheets, ensuring it can read data, update existing files, and clean up any temporary or outdated files as needed.
Rest assured, our system will only interact with the specific files you choose for the automation. It won't delete or modify any files without explicit action from you, and it never deletes files arbitrarily. Unfortunately, Google doesn’t offer a more granular permission system for individual file actions like "ask each time," which is why full permissions are required.
We assure you that your data is secure, and only the files involved in the automation will be accessed. Without granting these permissions, the integration can't perform key functions like updating or creating sheets.
Providing the correct permissions is essential to ensure the integration functions as expected. Without the required permissions, actions like reading data from Google Sheets or creating events in Google Calendar will not work.
